Hello,
I am trying to temporarily hook up my laptop drive to my desktop machine to no avail. When I hook it up, it spins, but my PC is saying the HDD is unavailable.

Win 10 OS on desktop
2006 Dell laptop HDD

Could it just be a corrupt old drive? I just want to pull some old stuff off it but having no luck.

Thanks,
Jason

Welcome to the community, Jason!

Since the HDD is recognized by the system, I'd suggest you go to Disk Management and check how it appears there. Afterwards, it's probably a good idea to run the HDD manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic utility and find out what is the health and SMART status of the drive. You should be able to find the software on their official website, in case you cannot find it, you should refer to some third-party testing tool suggestions from the forum. It's sounds like the hard drive is pretty old, so it's possible that it's corrupted. I hope you don't have any important data on it, though.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting! :)
