I'm building a new PC and I'm not sure whether to spend $1000 on 2 GTX 980s or around $700 on a single GTX 980 Ti...

I know some games don't even properly use SLI, so I am leaning more towards the best single card I can afford, rather than SLI....

Also, when you SLI, is your VRAM limited to a single card's amount or do you get the VRAM added from each card? So with 2 4GB 980s, will I have effectively 8GB VRAM for games that use SLI??

No vram does not add. It is smallest amount. As of performance, the 980s will rock u out. But with limited VRAM, you will do poor on higher resolutions like 1440 or 4K. 1080 p,is fine. As of a single card, it is not a bad choice either, and it will creat less heat and stuff. What are you looking to do? If it is crysis 3 and rendering, the 980s would be your choice. If it is just regular 1080p gaming on ultra then a single card can work

My goal is to basically be able to solidly max any current game at 1080p60fps no problem....
I want to be able to play Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, GTA V, Quantum Break, and upcoming games for 2016/2017 with rock solid performance at 1080p even during hectic action packed scenes....

I literally want a build that doesn't get any frame rate drops below 45-50fps in games like this, and hovers around 57-60fps the vast majority of the time....

I'm going for X99 build with an i7 5820K
