CPU temps absurdly high

My RealTemp readings and bios readings are weird. When i was using realtemp, i was horrified at readings in excess of 100degrees C on full load. I changed the thermal paste and cleaned the stock heatsink and it still gave me temperatures of greater than 100 degrees. So i decided to boot into bios to try and underclock my CPU to prevent it frying itself, however i noticed that on full load my BIOS temperatures were only 66~68 Degrees C. So im not exactly sure which reading to take.
My Rig:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
8.0 GB Ram
Gigabyte

You said you have stock cooler, a stock cooler cannot handle a synthetic benchmark, you stated multiple times that in bios the temperature under full load was xx degrees but i keep wondering how did you load your cpu to 100% load in bios as for my knowledge it is not possible, yes it says there the maximum frequency but it doesnt mean it is in full load, a full load is when the cpu it is used 100% not that reaches 3.9 ghz it can be at 3.9 ghz and be at 5% load. Yes your temperature are a bit too high check your cpu fan profile, check your case airflow, for more test leave the sidepanel removed and see if it changes anything.

Thats way to hot. Im running i7 4790k and bios idle im at 32c max load 80 max. Try turning the heat sync a different direction, i noticed that i had applied it spotchy and when i turned it around the displacment of the grease covered more area.

Download a different software for temperature monitoring, HWinfo64 is amazing, HWMonitor, Aida64, all of those are reputable with HWinfo64 supplying the most robust information. 66 with that cpu under load with stock cooler is normal. Sounds like Realtemp isn't reading your motherboard sensors correctly.

I've tried a few other temp sensors and they all give me absurd readings such as MSI Afterburner even HWInfo64, they all differ greatly from my Bios Temperatures. This is after i remounted the fan and heat sink with a new coat of thermal paste. The strange thing thats bothering me is that my Bios temperatures are much lower than my software temperatures on a full load...
Maybe my sensors are broken or stuck?

Did you try the software included with your mobo for monitoring temps? I've never seen sensors get "stuck", and after only 2-3 years old they should all still be working.

No I meant any software included with your motherboard, Asus mobos come with AI Suite, not sure if that motherboard had any software included. Your bios temps are 66c but that is idle is it not? Still very high for idle temps. How did you find that you had such high temps, you said they were "weird" in realtemp but were you having performance issues that prompted you to check? I'd try downloading a few more apps to monitor temps and see if you get different readings, you can always uninstall them after all. Also, what sensor are you reading from HWinfo64? cpu cores or cpu socket?

Noted, i'll try that
Ive found that my heatsink wasnt seated correctly thus causing absurdly high temperature readings, now i idle at 45~ish with no load on my CPU. Thanks for the help!

That is great, 45 is a good idle temp but in the future i advice you to go for an aftermarket cooler, before that check the max height that allows your case for a cooler and buy one that fits in your case, also dont forget to check reviews for that cooler too. If you have more the 165 mm height i really recomend you cooler master hyper 212 evo.
