Ok, First of all what I need is a Thermal pad, because there is a gap between the heatsink and my CPU so I was wondering if ever I can make the thermal grease harden and make it a thermal pad? or a hardened thermal grease is already a bad insulator.

btw, thermal pads are not available in my country or likely so hard to find a dealer.

and lastly, I have read that if I put too much thermal grease to eliminate the gap from the heatsink is kind of a bad thing to do.

Thanks in advance! :)

Adding too much grease is definitely not the answer - the grease conducts heat only when applied in a thin layer and would change to acting as an insulator, heating your CPU instead of cooling it. Thermal pads too, while they sound thick, are really very thin and wouldn't solve this issue.

We should solve the root of your issue - what CPU/motherboard/heatsink do you have? do you have any pictures you can post links to? There shouldn't be any gaps.

because it heats too much and causes shutdown when opening games, but when watching a video via youtube or VLC or surfing the net no conflicts are encountered.

It is a laptop(forgot to mention that) an intel i5 second gen. its kinda old though. I really dont know the specifications my heatsink and motherboard have.

Or maybe my heatsink is the culprit? I can't get any pics because I dont have a decent camera. That's all I could give for now. Thanks for replying ser, really appreciate it.
