Hey i am going to a lan and i have a nh-d15 with a i7 6700k right now. I need a lighter cooler for going to lan right? watercooler or air? What cooler is the best? Thanks!

Solution
I doubt stuffing the case with foam will make any difference, just make sure the motherboard is horizontal whenever it's being moved, and be extra careful not to jostle it.

It also depends on what motherboard you have and whether you are happy to put the case on the side, as if you have a good motherboard, and put the case in the car in a way that the cooler sits with the heat pipes facing vertically, it shouldn't be too bad. I wouldn't want to have to drive too far and do that but short distances *should* be fine. And thus, I would probably suggest a smaller cooler just to be safe, as it is far less likely to damage the motherboard in transit

If you're only clocking your CPU up to 4.2ghz, you don't need the D15. The Noctua HN-L9x65 would probably be more than enough for your CPU, both at home and when transporting, or even a Noctua NH-L9i. I can run my 22nm i5 at 4.6ghz using the low-profile NH-L9i and stay well below throttling temps.

There are other cheaper options that will work adequately, but most cheap coolers come with poor quality fans, which is why I tend to recommend people either use the stock cooler (which your CPU doesn't include), or go with something nice like a Noctua.

Well, i cant return the nh d15 though. So i would be happy if i can use it for lan. It is a 20 - 30 minute ride. If i buy antistatic foam / bubblewrap and put it inside the caseto ease the stress, would that go fine?
