new z97-p motherboard and 980 gpu running pci-e 2.0 only?

hello
as the title says. i have this new system of asus z97-p and and strix 980 gtx
problem is its showing that the gpu is running on pci-e 2 while bothe the gpu and motherboard are pci-e 3.
as you can see in both pics
do i have a faulty gpu or motherboard?

Calling it the "first" PCIe slot is open to misinterpretation, that's why I said the "gray" slot to avoid any confusion.
I assume you mean the slot nearest to the processor?

If you've got the card in that one, yes that's the PCIe 3.0 slot.

I don't know why you can't get 3.0 if you're using the grey slot.
It's a mystery to me unless the board is faulty.

You're right. I should have been more specific. Yes the first socket is the pci-e 3. That what is written on the board and the box. Also on a side note am running an i7 4790
