GTX 960 4gb Horrible frame rate

So I bought an ASUS Strix GTX 960 4GB and I installed it a good 3 hours ago. When I tried to play some games, the framerate was worse than when I used my onboard graphics.
My specs
Intel i3-6100 3.7ghz
Fatal1ty H170 Performance
Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4gb 2133 ddr4
Asus Strix GTX 960 4gb 1253MHz
ThermalTake 750W Smart
WD Green SATA3 5400RPM 1tb HDD (Where all my games are installed)

1. what game did you test it on?
2. what kind of fps are you experiencing?
3. what are the temperatures like on the cpu and gpu?

1. skyrim
2. anywhere from 3 fps to 17 fps
3. CPU: min: 34 max: 49 (Celsius) (hwmonitor wasnt displaying anything for my graphics card)

what did you have previously, did you reinstall the drivers?

This is the first dedicated graphics card Ive used on this rig. No, I havnt tried reinstalling the driver yet

oh my god I feel really stupid right now. I didnt install the display driver in the first place

That'll be a place to start, though windows is generally pretty good at hunting them down.

i suggest you install ddu. here's a video explaining how to use it. (skip to 4:10)
basically it helps remove any preinstalled drivers on your machine.
also, download the driver from here.
