My External Hard Drive is making clicking noises and doesn't work

Hey Everyone,

My External Hard disk is making clicking noises. (turns on) and (turns off) over and over again.
and doesn't show up in my computer.

but the computer show up my usb flash memory perfectly.
and the External Hard Disk work perfectly on Another computer.

what should I do?

Either way until you are certain what might be the issue, the recommendation for you to backup your data is still standing.
Other than that you could try another external HDD (if possible) with that computer to see if you have the same issues.

Hey there, MMJO.

This is a bit strange, however a power issue might explain it as a flash drive need a lot less power than an external drive. Anyway, in order to be on the safe side, I'd recommend that you backup your data and test the external drive with its manufacturer's diagnostic tool to see if any errors or bad sectors pop-up. You should also try the external drive with other USB ports on your computer, to see if the same thing happens. Try it with a different USB cables as well.

I think you right About power issue. Already use manufacturer's diagnostic tool and nothing has changed.
Also I try with other USB ports and different USB cables and nothing has changed.
