Decent New GPU Decently Priced?

I'm currently running an aging AMD HD 7870 (which oddly still seems to be towards the top of the hierarchy here?), but I'm scared it might be entering its death spirals. Occasionally my computer crashes to a black screen with vertical lines, which, in my experience, is generally a GPU problem. So, I'm researching the field, to see what's out there in case of the worst.

I can't spend a ton of money, preferably no more than $200 (approaching $300, if it really is a big enough difference to matter, and not just an incremental thing). I'd also rather not have to replace my PSU (SeaSonic 650w). The last time I needed to replace things I was happy for the upgrade, but looking at the GPU Hierarchy here, and the general prices, it seems like I'm not going to get much of one out of the cost now.

I'd rather stick with AMD (less ethically dubious, and I'd rather NVIDIA/Intel have competition in the long run), but I if the performance/price is right I'd switch to NVIDIA (and never tell anyone).

TL;DR: Whats a decent upgrade/sidegrade to a HD 7870 for ~$200?

Edit: I'm not sure if this matters, but the GPU is hooked to a wide gamut monitor, and needs to support aRGB, and such... I do photo work on the side...

Can't say much more than these guys. I'll list lowest to highest in price.

-R9 380-Better than 960, not by much but still is better.
-R9 380x-Worth the extra money, a very good mid range card.
-GTX 970-Best value graphics card out there, closer to the $300 mark but worth it.

I would go for the R9 380x if you really cannot spend the extra for the 970. Hope I helped

How big of a difference is there between the 970 and the rest of them? I generally try to hit the beginning of the curve of diminishing returns when I upgrade.

Also, why is my 7870 still towards the top the the list here? I checked it against the 380x and GTX 960 on GPUboss, and it didn't fair too well.

Sorry, I'm new here, and was fighting a bit with editing/posting replies.

Rest assured, though, your answer was helpful. Perhaps even the most helpful. Even if there isn't a tag above your comment, I still thank you for the help.

The 970 is a fair bit better and can max out most games at 60FPS but if the price difference is too much for you then 100% get the 380x.

Take a look at eBay for the 970, it is 30 GBP more for me over the 380x so it is well worth it for me.

Why does it matter? Your quite big on this forum so I would have expected you to not be quite so immature. I've seen you help a lot of people, you don't need the proof to know you have helped.
