Solution

hey man i know its been a couple of days but i am just commenting to tell you that i had a windows update and it fixed the problem so yea thanks for the help anyway.
Try to start windows in safe mode and run a "driver clean up" tool. There were a couple that did a very good job for AMD and nVidia.

If that doesn't help you, then you might want to check power cables for the 970 and BIOS settings for the PCIe.

Cheers!

Ok so then what do you mean about power cables that came with the 970? It may have come with 2 adaptors, but don't use those, only use the cables built into your PSU.

First that, next does your computer have an integrated GPU? Did you ensure to disable it in the BIOS?

Yeah definitely clear all drivers and then go into the BIOS then to the Advanced menu, then to System Agent Configuration. In there select Graphics Configuration, then switch Primary Display to PCI Graphics (or PEG). Save that and reboot.

How old is this motherboard, your CMOS battery may be dying as well, if it doesn't hold this setting. Thats a cheap easy fix.

Ah, good to know.

It is weird that a windows update fixed the issue. You sure it didn't install new drivers?

Cheers!

I agree, Glad it worked out but strange the way it did, I would think something else helped it along as well. Maybe it held the BIOS setting now too.
