hey guys,

I've recently bought an Elgato HD60 pro and wanted to stream and record and so on but I've been having this issue with stream command (Elgato software) without it enabled its fine but i need it enabled in order to use my webcam, what happens is my in-game fps drops dramatically when enabled :(

so i then informed Elgato of my problem they then told me my current i5 6600k CPU wasn't powerful enough so I'm now here to ask for any suggestions toward a new CPU? Has to be good for gaming also, id say budget wise would be 200-300 ish im easy on :)
also i wouldn't need to reinstall my OS would i?
Thanks in advance.

But its not BS, while yes his system is far ahead of the minimum requirements, his complaint isn't that it doesn't work, but that it causes a lot of FPS drops.

Its not surprising.

edgeyuk, if you went with an i7-6700k it not only runs faster its hyperthreaded so its much better for tasks like this. It should help your situation quite a bit. However its going to cost you around $380 US

The only way to go faster is with a i7 skylake like a i7-6700K. not sure how much they are in your area but here they are over $320 easy. You might ask Elgato what CPU they recommend for the skylake platform you should use. Before you spend more money on a CPU. Just upgrading the CPU shouldn't require to reload Windows or reinstall the motherboard drivers.

Gaming, recording/streaming all at once can be a bit demanding on the CPU depending on the game, but I'm a bit surprised that a new i5-6600k isn't up to the task.

Before you replace it, I would try... overclocking it. You can get a good air cooler for $30-50, overclock the snot out of it (or at least as far as you're comfortable - like 4.4-4.6ghz) and see if that solves the problem.

The reason why is the only other choice in the matter is that you have exactly one step at this point - an i7-6700k - and that's going to run you a fair bit ($350ish). Good news is you can recover probably about $200ish by selling the 6600k so your net out of pocket is about $150ish...

As for your OS, you shouldn't have to reinstall with a processor change. Usually a motherboard change necessitates a reinstall.

From Reedo's link:
To use Stream Command with the Elgato Game Capture HD 2.0 software:

• 2nd generation Intel Core i7 CPU (i7-2xxx or comparable), 2 Ghz or higher, before Turbo Boost
• Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or later

Your CPU should be fine.

I don't really stream and record simultaneously and i already have a be quiet dark rock 3 and i already have asked Elgato what they recommend, just waiting on a reply.
I'm not really down with the overclocking scene lol so i'm kind of clueless toward that, i'm edging toward the upgrade.
Is the i7 6700k the only potential upgrade then?
Thanks.

Slightly cheaper is the i7 6700, its the same processor except you can't overclock and the clock speed is a bit lower. Thats around $330 US.

Yeah i think I'll get the i7 6700k,
Elgato just emailed me back and put:

Thank you for contacting Elgato Systems.

You may have trouble streaming a webcam with your current upload speed, uploading webcam content, (especially 1080p footage), is much more information that needs to be uploaded to the internet.

To find out how well a processor will perform with our software, please check out the bench marking website below.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/

For stream command I would recommend looking for a score of 9,000 or better.

Before looking into a new processor, I would test your webcam overlay out in a local recording, as the latency issue could be tied to your internet speed.

If everything works fine in a recording, than you should be fine to stream with enough upload speed.

Feel free to contact us with any questions.

I'm currently only uploading at 720p using 1.60mbps and i have 3.10 mbps upload speed but im currently in the process of getting an upgrade,
and as far as recording I've not messed around with that yet lol
