So my fathers laptop had the CMOS battery go out. He took it apart and got to the motherboard on his own. I finally got to get ahold of it and where the CMOS should be is nothing. Not a holder, a battery nothing. I looked around online to find the exact same motherboard with the battery and something to hold it as well. I have pictures of the one I found online and the current one as well.

Picture I found online.

So my father says that he never saw anything fall out when he took it apart however I wasn't there so I am skeptical. But I still trust him so I have no clue.

RTC = Real Time Clock. It is a circuit that keeps track of time when the computer is turned off.

It will usually be powered by external power from the laptop's power adapter when available or the main battery. The coin cell battery is a last resort when every other power source has failed when installed.

had it never been there, then it could not have run down. but i'm sure you have already considered this. how or why it disappeared i have no clue but it had to have been there at one point if it went bad.

i don't have a clue what to tell you on this one. if you can't find the piece and reattach it then a new mobo is probably gonna be needed to get it working right.

The copper pads where the battery holder should have been are completely free of solder, which strongly suggests there has never ever been anything soldered onto them. It is extremely difficult to get copper anywhere near that clean after it has been tinned.

what made you decide that "the CMOS battery had go out"? perhaps we can figure out what the real issue is since i have to agree with invalid error there about how clean the copper is. he's got a great point there.

what happened that your father feels the battery was dead?

It can't do that.
From your second pic, that battery holder never existed.
