I have a new MSI Z170a gaming M7 Mobo, a core i5 6600k, 16 Gb of crucial ballistix 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM, and a Nvidia GTX 760 GPU (yes I know this is not the most powerful gpu, but its what I could afford and seems to work just fine in my old alienware R5). OS is windows 7 professional.
The new system posts and boots like a beast. But any time I try to start any game, and I do mean any, everything comes to a sudden stop. I use steam for most of my games simply because I have for years and I have quite a library built up. All the games were freshly downloaded and installed, so I am not trying to use an old HDD to move them to the new one. The computer does not freeze, blue screen, or even black screen, it just acts as if i had never pressed the play button. Task manager clearly states what game is running in the processes tab, but only displays steam in the applications tab. Steam also states that the game is "running", but my desktop background is all that is displayed. I have tried running as admin, starting games in windowed mode, and even deleting and re-installing microsoft visuals C++.
I have gone over the motherboard making sure that all pieces were nice and snug in their appropriate slots, even though I assumed the machine wouldn't even post if something wasn't plugged in tight. So I am at a total loss as to what to do next. At the time of writing this im back to using my alienware R5 because I am so disgusted with trying to get my new computer to work.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Try reinstalling the steam launcher, also did not see the gpu driver reinstall. Try and reinstall the driver but make sure its a clean install as Nvidia includes this as a select option when you install new gpu drivers. Also when you open task manager did you check your cpu n ram usage and see if there's any spike in usage?

yes sir. I have even gone through and tried deleting and re-installing VC redist files for the games individually.

I am assuming you rebooted after all of the installs? Did you check and see if compatibility mode may have caused an issue?
