I've always used wired connection(Windows 10), but today when I started up my PC, the connection shows I'm connected through wifi. I unplugged the ethernet cable, wifi still there and working, and replugged it, but it still only recognizes wifi.

When I go into network connection setting, it is said under "ethernet" that "network cable unplugged". But it is not!

The wifi works fine but it's just a lot slower than wired connection. Restarting the router and PC didn't solve the issue.

I checked in device managers, all the drivers are said to be working properly and there's no yellow or red flags.

I tried the ethernet cable on another PC and it works fine.

Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks!

Solution
Well depending on your router.
And how fast the ethernet ports are on it in speed.

10/100/ or 1Gbps ports.

And the speed that the ethernet adapter of your computer works at.

Check the settings of the ethernet adapter on what link speed it is set to.
You can do this by going to control panel.
Device manager.

Network adapters.
And clicking on your wired ethernet adapter

Click on the advanced tab, scroll down to speed and duplex settings.
See what the maximum speed the wired ethernet port works at.
It should be 100 or 1Gbps full duplex.

Set it to 100 first of all.
Then click apply or ok.
Restart your system and see if you get a wired connection again.

Just to check, click on start
Control panel.
Network and internet.
Then network...

To the left in blue writing, click on change adapter settings.
Right click on the local area connection in the new window.
And check to see if the adapter is enabled.

If not then click on the enable setting.

Obviously try another ethernet cable from the router to the ethernet port of your computer to confirm it`s not the cable at fault.
Even if it`s only four months old. or check both the connectors on each end of the cable are securely seated in the ethernet ports of the adapter and router.

It only takes for one wire out of the twisted pair of wires in the cable to become broken or loose in contact to render the cable faulty.
Or a nail or tack to pierce the cable at any point of the cable run.
