Usb storage space reduced 8gb to 4 mb

Solution
What is the model... And what kind of device is it anyways? If it's an USB stick that you bought on eBay from a Chinese seller, then it is almost certainly a falsified device. It has a controller that states that it has 8gb but it actually has 4mb only ti show as if it's a storage device.

I got the same problem. Good qual Toshiba 8GB stick now only 4MB after I accidentally deleted the "Unallocated Space" reducing the drive to the minimal Primary Partition size (4MB).

Hi there elkatman,

It is always a better idea to create a new thread, instead of posting in an old one. :)

Apart from that, I would agree with nooneisback. You can go to Disk Management and see how is the drive recognized over there. If you have no data on the drive, you can repartition and reformat it.
In case you have some, you can use some data recovery tools.

If the drive is recognized as having less than it's full capacity under Disk Management, then it could have failed.

cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

Thanks D_. DIsk Management shows it as a 4MB disk (USB stick) with no unallocated space. Hence cleaning/repartitioning with new primary partition produces same result: 4MB. If it the disk has failed, it is a soft failure, not hardware failure. It happened because I foolishly deleted the unallocated space. If it is possible to recover the Unallocated space (not data involved, it was, before I got to it, an empty 8GB stick that only showed 4GB after I had used the stick for a recovery drive. I then tried to return it to 8GB and, exasperated, I deleted the unallocated space, thinking there would be some way to recover it. I did first open a new thread but have got no responses on it so far. Then I found this thread. If it is possible to recover "Unallocated space" (not data) then I reckon someone on Tomshardware will know how....but maybe it's impossible!??

Can you post a screenshot of Disk Management? Just upload the screen to an image hosting website and post the link.
I believe the issue is a hardware related one. I don't think that unallocated space can be deleted.
You can try the flash drive on another computer.

Hi D_Know_WD. Thx for answering. Never used image hosting so I hope this works: https://www.flickr.com/photos/144050607@N08/.
Incidentally, I got a Night Owl award for my post even though here in Australia it was lunchtime lol.
