I'm exploring how to set up a bootable recovery partition on same physical SSD as my OS partition. I'm trying to eliminate the slow boot times associated with USB/CD/DVD/BluRay. Alternatively, booting a rescue partition from an HDD would be acceptable but not ideal. 3rd party software is acceptable, freeware/minimal features also acceptable. Using W8.1
Thanks!

I wonder if you would consider another option in achieving your basic objective...

Presumably your overarching objective is to restore your PC to a bootable, functional system in the event the system becomes dysfunctional as a result of one reason or another. Isn't that your basic objective?

If that be the case would it not be a feasible course of action to simply clone the entire contents of your present functioning system, presumably to another drive either connected internally in your system or as a USB external device? So that in the event your day-to-day system becomes dysfunctional because the system drive becomes defective or your data becomes corruptible because of malware, unwise configuration changes, or for any other reason, you would have at hand a perfectly good clone of your system and you could restore your system in not time at all.

As a general proposition it is not considered desirable to maintain backups of one kind or another on the same drive you're backing up.

It's difficult for me to understand your concern with "slow boot times" with backup media. Presumably backup recovery procedures would not be something you would be undertaking on a day-to-day basis, would it? In any event if you did clone the contents of your system drive to another drive that "destination" disk would be a bootable device if & when the time came when you needed to restore your system back to a functional state.
