I´m concidering buying the Sennheiser HD558 (not HD598 because of the price) and modmic instead of a gaming headset. The only thing that confuses me right now is surround vs. stereo, hope you guys can help me out.

I´ve heard lots of great things about these headphones for gaming, but they are stereo headphones. They will be used for cs:go, so I want to be able to hear where things come from.

Should I get surround headphones instead? Or is it just a gimmick? Would these stereo headphones sound better using a surround software (like razer surround) or with surround from a sound card? Or will they be just fine the way they are?

Some that advertise surround sound are not, they must have multiple speakers inside to give a proper directional sound and yes when it comes to hearing noises within shooter games that are approaching you from behind they are worth it
