Hey guys,
I'm looking to get a powerline adaptor to use for my computer as opposed to wireless which I am currently using. I am basically just looking to improve the stability of the connection and am not really needing to improve speeds or anything. I was wondering if powerline adaptors are good for this?

My current modem is a Thomson TG782T and I was looking to purchase maybe a D-Link AV2 1000Gb powerline adaptor (http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=154586)

Was wondering if someone could lend me some knowledge on this and maybe confirm if this adaptor would be compatible with my modem?

Thanks!

^ You're a little off on speeds there mate

200 meg plugs will max at about 75 meg
500 meg plugs will max about 120 meg
1000 meg plugs 300 meg+ but you'll need pristine house wiring to get that speed.
Powerline adapters should help with what you want but performance depends a lot on the quality of the house wiring. Those linked are ok but I'd recommend getting ones with a mains pass through socket. You want to plug them directly into the wall, not through any adapters and loosing a wall socket just for one of these can be a pain

You need to directly plug them into the wall outlet....no power strips or extension cords.

These units are based on the newest standard and tend to work better than most the older unit. They pass traffic over the ground lead in addition to the other 2. This greatly increases their chance to get past issues with breakers.

They tend to be much faster than the older units but the quoted speed is still a big lie. You likely will get 150m-200m which is still much better than the 500m units which only get 75m or so.

Ah cool thanks for the replies guys, I'm from Australia so my download and upload are pretty pathetic honestly I think I get like 9mb with one of the highest broadbands so I'm not to worried about speed, more just about stability ie. No interference or anything. Because at the moment ethernet cable isn't an option.

Is anyone able to recommend a good brand/product for a powerline adaptor WITH the AC pass through thing? Thanks guys

Please show me your source that shows you can get more than 300m or are this just numbers you made up.
