Like the title says I can't seem to do a basic overclock of the cpu without a boot fail. What I can't understand is how does the easy tune feature set the cpu to 4.1 but then if I try to set it manually(because I won't use easy tune) it fails? I should add that I am very much a novice when it comes to this kind of thing so any advice on getting a cpu overclock to work would be great!
BTW I have updated to the latest bios version f21a

OK so I got it working! Apparently this board does not like having usb storage devices plugged in when you are trying to make changes in the bios! Once unplugged I can change anything I want(within reason). My next problem is going to be working out a system where I plug my storage devices in after I boot up, which shouldn't be a problem I guess, but it would be nice if there was a solution to this. Why should the usb storage devices be creating boot fails in the 1st place?

OK so now that I can oc the cpu what should I shoot for? I notice there are some pre set overclocks built into the bios...Are these ok to use? The highest is 4.3

I should also add that even trying to enable the xmp profile results in a boot fail. But other then not being able to change anything in the bios the build works great. I guess I should be happy with that, but to be honest I'm not! I paid extra to have higher frequency ram(3200mhz) that is running @ 2133mhz, and I also paid extra for a cpu that I can't oc. I guess I skimped on the motherboard, but only because the so called expert at Canada computers assured me that the ga x99 sli was a fantastic board, as good as any of the much higher priced boards, and that they hardly ever get returned compared to other x99 boards. I told the guy I was willing to spend up to $1000cdn and he still suggested this board, and as I couldn't see any angle in him under selling me something I took him at his word and got the ga x99 sli.

So I'm really not sure what to do here. Is it the board? Did I get a dud? Or is it just a matter of fine tuning? But how can it be a matter of fine tuning if ANYTHING I change results in a boot fail?

I'm sorry, I'm really a noob when it comes to this stuff. Do you want me to provide what the settings are before I try to change things(optimal) and then after I try to overclock? I'm not sure how to provide that, but I will look into it, and get back to you.
With regards to the CPU overclock, I used gigabyte easytune just to see if I would have a different result, which I did, it oc'd the cpu to 4.1, but I don't want to use easy tune to oc the CPU, I want that done in the bios "bios overclock". But any time I try changing any setting in the bios I get a boot failure. Gigabyte easytune is just a quick boost app that comes with gigabyte motherboards, but I wasn't able to change settings in the bios even before easytune was installed.
