Does standerd ram(non ecc) work on motherboards like S3420GPLC which support ecc ram?
Also can i install xeon x3440(lga 1156) on a desktop board?

Intel Server Board S3420GPLC supports only ECC Memory. So, Non-ECC will not work.

Yes, some of the motherboards will run the Intel Xeon x3440.
