Love my dell 6320 but power supply going. Bought an identical machine on ebay. Both running Windows 7.

My initial plan was to simply swap hard drives but then i thought-is it really that easy??

I need my files and programs so wondering what I should do
1) just swap hard drives
2) image drive i want and replace new drive with image
3) image new drive (as a backup), image old drive, then replace new drive with image

I can't run two machines from the same image can I? I would think windows wouldn't like duplicate installations. I have two sets of legit windows 7 installs on two different hard drives.

thanks

The easiest way to do this is just swap new power supply for your current one.

However, if you don't want to do that then you should just take image of your current hard drive and place it on the HDD in your latest purchase. I think you should be OK doing that as long as the hardware is the same in both machines, otherwise you may encounter driver problems.

Just swap the harddrives.
As long as the hardware is somewhat similar it shouldn't be a problem.
If not the OS should download/install the drivers automatically.

Just do a Windows update after you do the swap.

As long as only one machine connects to the internet you'll be fine.
