Hi,

I would be interested in making an ultra long range wifi network and LAN. However, I'm new to networking and unsure on how I could go about doing this. I would like to position a transmitter and antenna inside my house so that it covers around 500m outward from my house. I know line of sight will be an issue in certain areas of my yard, but generally speaking, that is the range I am looking to achieve.
I would like to receive this wifi internet using laptops, phones, and other internet connected devices etc. So, it would be important to have it work with regular antennas.
Would something like the Ubiquiti Rocket M5 work, by just connecting the ethernet wire to it?

What kind of antenna would I need? Would I specifically need a "wifi antenna"? Or would any 5GHZ antenna work?

thanks

Solution
what you need is on or two high powered base stations and then few ap spots around your yard. with the ap spots and base station any standard wifi device could log onto the best ap spot on your yard.
