Can someone tell me why I have a unknown device connected to my home internet network? I have had a jump in gigs and I have not used my computer much. No other person in my household has. I have a satellite internet company and this has happened a number of times. Could this unknown device be a hacker sucking off my connection?

Solution
You could have a leech attached to your network. Changing your wireless password and your router's admin password will remove them if so.

The unknown device could be a smart phone, bluray player, or another network device like a NAS.

Makes the changes and see what happens. Good luck.

Thank you. I changed the passwords. This has happened a number of times, where I called my provider and they have no clue what is going on. I live in a rural area so I'm not quite sure how this is happening. Can someone hack my network from another location? I checked the usage in the beginning of the week and it was at 40%, I checked it again yesterday and it was at 60%. I just wish I knew how someone could get in my network like this.

Someone could access your network from afar, but it is not likely. Make sure you also disable remote access on your router.

Make a list of all devices attached to your home network and post them here. Be sure to include all devices, we can look at what might be consuming your data.
