I just recently picked up an HP Compaq sff from my friends house, and don't know what it is good for. I fired it up, and looked at the specs. It was formerly some sort of IT machine, and has 4 gig of ddr3 ram, 280 gb of storage, and a core 2 duo e8400, and the sticker says vpro. comes with windows 7 pro I think. First off, who owns a core 2 in 2016? probably nobody, and I don't even see a pci slot anywhere (its really small). the cpu is removable, and I think upgradeable, but what can an e8400 do? is an e8400 a vpro processor?

I have a laptop with an amd a6 6310 with r4 integrated graphics. compared to the e8400, is it better?

This thing also has a D++ port on the back, but have no clue what I can use it for. I was really curious if I could put an external graphics card, but I have no pci slot, not even pcie for external solutions.

Honestly, I am really unsure what to do with an e8400. can I play warface or nfs most wanted on it?

If I can do anything with this computer (which I doubt because it is so small, and from 2009), please respond. any answer is appreciated.

If you have the version that has no expansion slots, the ultra small form factor it really limits what you can do. No expand-ability outside of using usb. No possibility of using any other kind of graphics card other than what is on the processor at all. Considering what you have i would still convert it into a fire wall appliance or maybe a linux box for maybe even a computer to just browse the internet. If you have another computer that you can game with you will have to stick with that one to game with because this one will not be able no matter what you try. Just some options depending on what you need.

Many people do. If you have a monster PC, do not assume other people do. Core 2 Duo is still a good CPU while the Core 2 Quads are bought for dirt cheap for budget gaming rigs.

Your CPU has 4 trash cores while the Core 2 Duo only has 2 cores but they are more powerful.

If you do not pair any GPU with the E8400, your laptop is better. Duo's integrated graphics are not good.

If it is the small form factor i would convert it to a fire wall appliance or something like that. If it is more of a standard case I would convert it to a media server or file server. It would be fast enough for either of those purposes. If it is the sff then it was used and meant to be a dummy network terminal. Used to primarily allow a user to access their standard desktop on a server. Kind of sounds like that is what you have.

thx for the reply. this thing is really tiny, but my friend does have another core 2 duo machine that actually has a removable quadro on it. it's kinda old, but was a beast back then. that one runs on XP and is pretty old. just picked this up to do whatever really. there are no PCI slots, and I don't know how else to set up external graphics any other than a PCI or pcie connection
