For the last 2 days i've been looking everywhere to try to find a solution to my problem with no luck...
So here's what i had:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev 3.0 (Bios Version FA)
Cpu: AMD Athlon FX-4300 Black Edition (Quad Core, 3.8ghz)
Gpu: Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 4x4gb 1600mhz (cmz16gx3m4a1600c9)
Psu: Corsair CX-750
A 1500w No-break
Windows 10
All stock clocks.
I've had this system for over a year, it's been working fine without any problems.
Last week i changed the Cpu to an Athlon FX-8350 Black Edition (8 Core, 4.0 ghz). I've checked and the mobo supports the new processor even with the original bios.
When i play any games that use the cpu/gpu a lot, the computer simply resets.
These are the things i tried to fix/find the problem.
1. Changed the config to see the BSOD instead of automatically restart the computer. Tihs didn't help because the computer still resets without any errors.
2. Updated the bios, there are 4 different versions for my mobo/rev, i've tried all 4. (Loaded defaults after each update)
3. Plugged my Psu directly on the outlet to be sure the problem wasnt on my no-break.
4. Did a memory check with the windows memory software, no errors. (ill leave memtest running during the night)
5. Left the CPUz stress test running for 15 mins, works fine.
6. Left the GPUz stress test running for 15 mins too, no problems.
7. Left both CPUz and GPUz stress tests running, also no problems.
At first i thought the problem could be temp related, so i left hwinfo running on my second monitor while i was in game, and the computer reset as soon as the north bridge reached 70 degrees (celsius). But another time it reset at 58, then at 64.
During gameplay the northbridge wouldnt even get that hot, the cpu would get to 55c while the nb would be at 58c stable, and out of nowhere it would reset.
While Running CPUz alone it didnt get over 65c.
And while running both CPUz and GPUz, the processor got up to 69c and the northbridge got to 71c, and they were running without problems.
Btw, idling the processor stays at +- 24c.
Then i started checking the voltages, but those were around the values they should be...
on hwinfo, +12v was between 11.952 and 12.024, +5v was between 5.040 and 4.980, +3.3v was between 3.324 and 3.300 and the ram was between 1.500 and 1.488v.
I also reinstalled my video card drivers, because the first time i updated the bios for some reason windows had to reinstall the driver that already was installed.
Now i dont know what to do anymore, i've tried everything that i think could be the problem, the only thing i didn't do was reinstall windows, but im not sure that would help.
Could the windows installation be causing the issues?
Or does anyone else have any idea for something i could do to fix these problems?
Edit: I tried using only one stick of ram at a time, tested every one on the first slot, and tried a few more times with different sticks in different slots, still reset, but this time much quicker (40 seconds after loading the game, instead of 3 minutes).
Also i forgot to mention, Windows event log shows no issues, only that the system has shut down unexpectedly, and i don't get any errors after returning to windows. It's like i chose to restart, but pressing the reset button)
Edit 2: I have changed back to my original processor, just reloading the bios default to be sure, and it's working fine... It seems there's a problem with the new processor, either by itself or something to do with my memory i think...
