A week ago my computer crashed while I was playing a game. Upon rebooting I checked my cpus temperatures. I was idling around 40C, and when I booted up a game my cpu would shoot up to 105C.

After promptly turning it off I checked the heatsink fan and noticed it was broken and not totally secure, so I went and purchased a new one. I replaced it but am now encountering a new problem.

Specifically, my computer now crashes to a black screen usually within a few minutes of booting up. The length of time can vary and I have found so far that the computer crashes if I run a game or open an internet browser.

The new heatsink is a Master Cooler 212 Evo and is securely fastened. After installing the new fan the computer now idles at 30C and runs the same game that it ran at 105C at 50C. The inside of the computer is clean and all the fans are working. The computer is approximately 3 and 3/4 years old.

My hardware is as follows:
AMD Radeon 7800
i5 3570k 3.4ghz quad-core
ASUS P8Z68-V LV
Mod X Stream-Pro 600W

I am at a loss for what could be causing this issue and could use some help.

This sounds suspiciously like severe hardware damage. Check if the CPU itself is seated properly into its socket and check your RAM. If you don't find any errors at all, your motherboard or CPU are most likely damaged.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the RAM, which are two sticks of Corsair Vengeance 8gb DDR3, and they both have no errors. I also checked the processor and it is seated securely and in the right position. A new issue has emerged, I tried to boot from a cd to run a hardware diagnostic, but the monitor screen stays black and it will flash with DVI no signal. I tried a different cable and monitor, the issue persists. Regretfully I don't have a VGA cable lying around.

I also think its hardware failure, and am just trying to narrow down the culprits to see which if any piece needs replacement.

Sorry for not replying in a while. Have you resolved the issue by yourself? I thought it might have also been a faulty PSU.
