I built this pic about a month ago now. It is my first build and I have been pretty good at figuring out problems. But I can't figure out why my CPU is having these crazy spikes. I have read nearly everything relating to this topic, and I have done the standard run down. I did virus scans, stopped unnecessary startups, and ended unnecessary tasks.

The specs are GTX 950, 16GB Ram, Asrock micro ATX B85M-DGS, and EVGA 500 watt power supply. Windows 10 - 64 bit. I'm also using the stock fan that came with the CPU.

If you're familiar with techsource, I basically built the 650$ Zeon PC but with 16 Gb of ram, so I know all the parts are compatible.

Within the first two weeks of use, I noticed the CPU temp was at like 100C. I quickly realized the fan wasn't installed properly and fixed it. I did some research online and the consensus is that if the CPU still works, it isn't heat damaged, so I doubt this is the problem.

The CPU usage will have a GIANT spike if I do even the smallest task. If I'm listening to itunes, while using gimp, the CPU usage will spike if I use the eraser tool, for example. I have also tried running CSGO and get extremely low framerates. If I run 1080p low settings I can hardly run 60 FPS and sometimes dip into 20-30. And I know csgo is a cpu intensive game, so I doubt it is my gtx 950 messing it up.

Here is a screenshot of my task manager after opening/closing a few google chrome tabs

I have also tried tweaking various settings in BIOS to no avail. I have just been keeping it on factory settings until II figure this out. The CPU temperatures are fine and normally idle around 30~40 C.

Please help. This has been a tremendous amount of stress on me and with college finals coming up I really need a win here. A MASSIVE thank you in advanced if you help in any way.

I actually figured it out. It was a windows 10 setting that made us of only one core.

In MSconfig > boot > advanced options

I had to uncheck number of processors, reboot, and everything was fine.

I have checked the resource monitor already. Whatever I am using at the time spikes it. And I mean any program I use, audacity, sony vegas, itunes, gyazo, etc...
