MOBO: Gigabyte z77-d3h
CPU: i5 2500K
GPU: GTX 680 (GTX 980, when issues started)
RAM: 4GB Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz x 4
PSU: Corsair 750

Hey guys,

A week ago a friend gave me his old GTX 980 (MSI 4GB) GPU to try out. It seemed in mint condition and well taken care of. So I grounded myself and installed it.

It worked fine until I started getting the BSOD. It happened every few days at first, before becoming more frequent. So I replaced my old GTX 680 and last night the BSOD came back again!!

The warning is always the same: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (0x0000001A) which research tells me is a RAM issue. I thought it might have been a GPU issue considering it started happening the same time I installed the new GPU. But forums seem adamant that the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT screen is RAM related, so who am I to argue.

I ran a Windows Memory Diagnostic, for 8 passes on Advanced settings throughout the night but it came up with no issues. I also TRIED to run memtest86 but when I tried booting it off the flash, my screen went black with a load of blue lines on it.

Last night, I ran malware scans and virus scans, and took all of necessary precautions there. I also uninstalled whatever software/drivers I'd installed when I first put in the 980. I haven't experienced a BSOD yet....but I'm not about to hold my breath.

I'm at a loss as what to do if/when it comes back. I'm thinking of maybe removing two sticks of RAM (despite the diagnostic results) to see if the BSOD comes back, then try eliminating it that way.

Have you any suggestions?

Please bear in mind that I'm probably the least tech savvy PC gamer you're ever likely to meet. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to PC terminology, so if you could dumb it down for bigtime I'd appreciate it :)

Thanks for your help, guys!!
