Does a MB matter when selecting a GPU?

Motherboards aren't really my strong suit, hence this post. Hopefully those of you more savvy in this category will be able to assist and give me a definitive answer.

Recently I decided to start saving for an upgrade to my desktop, used primarily for gaming, word processing, and the rare video render. My main concern is if I wanted to upgrade my GTX 560 Ti SLI setup, would I benefit by also upgrading my motherboard? I am unsure the exact name of the board; but I do know it supports up to four sticks of system memory and has an LGA1150 socket which supports my 2600k, and it is a MSI Military Class II, if that means anything - if I can find the original box, I'll be sure to update my post.

Right now I am considering upgrading to either a GTX 960 or GTX 770. This card will only be used for a short duration as I wait for Nvidia's latest series of cards later this year, so I am not expecting a huge performance boost, just a temporary solution to the more advanced games that have been coming out recently.

Solution
No, you should be able to keep your current motherboard if you upgrade your GPU.

And to correct something - the Core i7-2600K uses an LGA 1155 socket, not LGA 1150.

That's what I assumed, but I didn't want to make such an investment and be wrong. Thank you for clarifying and the correction. :)
