Hi,

I just installed my Kraken G10 and an Intel RTS2011LC Aio on my Asus R9 290X.

(The fan on the AIO is a cougar vortex pwm running intake from the front of my H440 case)

After initially running a benchmark it took about 10 mins for my temps to creep up to 94c forcing the card to throttle. I assumed I mounted the AIO incorrectly, therefore I remounted the cooler but got the same effect.

I have little to no luck keep this card cool on air but I can't understand the issue with it under water. Any help is appreciated.

Other notes:
- Noctua thermal paste
- Placed heatsinks on the VRM and VRAM
- Temps are still very high if the front and side panels are off
- Both card and rad are very hot to the touch
- Did not use spacers on the back of the mount plate as screws were too short (card has backplate)
- Removed three foam pads as screws were to short due to backplate
- AIO seems to be making some strange noises, Im assuming its air in the pump that hasnt settled yet

I was expecting this card to run in the fifties with this setup. I don't know what else to try!

Solution
Hello alpacino2368,

I had the same problem after installing G10 Kraken in my R9 290. When playing BF4 the temperature increase over 90 degrees celsius. I tried to change the radiator cooler positioning and nothing worked. I decided to check the contact of the watercooler in gpu, then I realized there was a millimeter gap between the pump copper plate and the GPU. Readjusted the pump screws so that there is full contact between the pump and GPU without any gap. When I turn on the PC the temperature was in 33 degrees celsius and when I play BF4 the temperature did not exceed 63 degrees celsius.
I hope this can help others as well.
First obvious question is: How have you connected the pump and fan?
Second is: What speed is the fan/pump running at?
Third is: What are the load temperatures of the VRMs? I know all too well that the R9 290 DEMANDS good cooling of these critical parts, problems getting decent VRM temperatures on my own R9 290 prompted me to finally go for a full liquid loop on my own rig.
Final point: it's possible the cooler just can't handle the heat, it's designed for a CPU, not a high power GPU like the R9 290.

1. Pump is connected to four pin fan header on Motherboard (CPU fan header being occupied by my h100i)
2. Fan is running at full speed, whatever that is. Pump I'm not sure as my mobo doesn't give me RPM reading for that header. I disabled any fan control in the motherboard so it should be receiving 12v.
3. My VRM and VRAM are creeping up in the 80's. This is to high for my preference, especially cause they have heatsinks on them. I am assuming it is the excess core heat causing the issue. I am also going to remount my radiator as an exhaust to improve case temps.
4. It may be limited to the cooler as I dont have any number for this particular AIO. However comparable AIOs such as the h55 perform in the fifties. I do not think the h55 is twice as good as my cooler.

I added another fan to the rad in push pull and it seemed to take off another 10 degrees, it is still not enough but it is a start. I'm hoping that mounting it as an exhaust and running two sp120 one the radiator will help!
