Greetings everyone on tom's hardware!

This is my first thread and I don't even know which category to put this in, but graphics card
seemed fitting since this is the part i'm looking to upgrade, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Sooo these are my current specs

CPU: i5 3470 @ stock 3.2 Ghz
Mobo: Asrock b75 pro3-m
GPU: hd 7850, mostly running @ stock 860 mhz core / 1200 mhz memory,
overclock to 1200 core / 1320 memory for games with 120% power target and 1225 mv voltage
SSD: old 60 gigs samsung, 830 something I believe.
HDD: 1 TB, 7200 rpm noname I saved from getting thrown away.
RAM: 8 gigs corsair something (vengeance i believe) 1333 mhz.

PSU: Corsair cx500 non modular

My question is if i could upgrade from the hd 7850 (it's the saphire OC edition btw)
to a gtx 970 with that 500 watt power supply or would i need to upgrade that as well? the system is about 4 years old, could be older, not sure.

My main concern is if my psu has enough power connectors (i need a 6pin and an 8pin right?)

I know a bit about hardware, but i have never assemled a pc so i'm worried to buy a graphics card that i can't run/having to purchase a different power supply.

Long story short:
Would i be able to run a gtx 970 with my system? maybe even some room for overclocking?

Thanks in advance guys!

Solution
Technically, the CX500 meets the power requirements for your system. It has the connectors needed for the new GPU. The GTX 970 power requirement is not much more than your HD 7850. The quality of the CX series is not the best out there so if you have problems come back and we can help you pick a better power supply. Hopefully it will work well for you.
