1. What will benefit me by upgrading the ram clock speed (Not amount)

2. What is a sound card good for and do I need one for gaming?

3. Is there a website I put my computer specifications into and it tells me what I can upgrade on?

Solution
1: not anything you would normally see an imporvement in outside of a benchmark
2: Better sounds quality then onboard. If you aren't an audiophile then you likely would not notice much difference.
- Also could mean better options, such as more ports (such 5.1 or 7.1 vs 2.1 or maybe an optical out), Dolby support and such
3: you're here at the best. Post those in SYSTEMS please.

If your motherboard has basic onboard a sound, a soundcard can add better quality sound. It may also add SPDIF outputs. It may add a headphone amplifier. And the software will add features such as EQ, headphone virtual surround sound, etc... Some motherboards have very good onboard sound with headphone amps but those boards cost more.

An effective solution is to get an external USB digital to analogue converter. A sound card is basically a digital to analogue converter with some software. Buying a separate DAC will give better sound quality than the DAC on a soundcard, is cheaper, and is only missing the software to give you an EQ and virtual surround sound for headphones. Seperate software can be easily obtained for Windows and a sound card is not required.

For gaming there used to be EAX in games that creative labs supported so their sound cards where useful. That no longer exists. If you use headphones for gaming which is recommended, especially if you chat with a mic, then a headphone amp is recommended. Also virtual surround sound for headphones is nice. A USB headset is basically a pair of headphones with a built in USB DAC and software for surround sound. You can buy a seperate DAC of better quality, use regular headphones, and use software such as Razer surround. It's better quality, more versatile, and more cost effective.

Increasing RAM clock speed will increase your overall system performance. With the new Intel Skylack increased speeds in memory are more noticable than with previous generations.

The only website I'm aware of is PC parts picker. If you put in a certain motherboard for example, it'll only let you pick compatible cpus. But as far as upgrades, you can upgrade anything you want. The sky is the limit.
