Hello everyone.

I've recently upgraded my setup to run the newest games as smoothly as possible and i managed to do that for a very short time but after today when i switched monitor from a philips pc monitor to a samsung tv monitor both running at 1920*1080p. I got these issues. I did switch from DVI to hdmi. But im getting crazy fps drops in gta 5 (happens on low settings aswell) and bf4 and ive been searching for a solution online but havent found one that fixes the issue. It goes from 60-80 fps steady to a mere 10-20 fps and happens very frequently which makes the games allmost unplayable. I am monitoring my system while it happens and the temperatures running is very low. Between 40-50 degree celcius on my cpu with the new noctua Dh-15 cooler which is doing a great job, and around 50-60c on my gpu. I just recently installed the noctua dh15 cooler and for about a 2 days it did run temps as high as 90-100c on my cpu before i noticed it. Did i damage my cpu in this time :(?. I have also tried overclocking both cpu and gpu. Cpu with asus suite 3 and gpu with afterburner. But as of now cpu is only running at standard turbo boost and gpu with a very slight OC. Im really hoping for a solution to make this issue go away.

I have tried the following:
Downclocking the system to default.
Unparking my cpu. But it seems i cant do this proberly in win 10 cause it still displays parked in ressource monitor.
Reinstalled my drivers.

My system:
Asus z170 pro gaming mobo
Intel i7 6700k skylake
Noctua DH-15 cooler
16 gb ddr4 running at 3000mhz
Gainward geforce gtx 970.
2* 250gb ssd samsung 850 evo.

I switched from this monitor philips 247e to samsung le40n87bd as i said above both running at 1080p.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

As far as i know gta 5 and bf4 are very cpu intense games. Your cpu may be thermal throttling but should be at those temps. Try resetting bios settings to default. And check the load on your cpu while in game. I had a problem with windows 8- the "system" process in task manager was ALWAYS using >80% of my cpu and made my pc into lower than potato. So windows might be trying to do something in the background

I did already load the optimal settings in my bios. The load in gta 5 is between 40 to 100% depending on the core. But since the game supports hyper threading it spreads out the load pretty decent. But again I really 1st noticed this when switching monitor.

How long do these fos drops last for? In arma 2(dayz mod) i get drops every now and then. For me its just high loot/populated areas loading for me. Might be the sane for you with graphically intense areas struggling to load.

I think i can confirm that the cpu is not throttling either. After using hwinfo to monitor it. So might not be the cpu. but what is it then.

After investegating this issue, im pretty sure i found this cause of this. It seems that my gpu's power limit is the bastard behind this. After ive had it monitored for a while i noticed this is happening when it reaches its max limit in this case 106% (cause the card is apperantly locket at this) it removes like 60-70% of the power in a matter of seconds down to 40ish and along with this fps drops crazy. when the power gets stable at 100ish again frames does too. But this continuesly happen. My question is now WHY?

try updating your video driver do a clean uninstall and install tho.
if nothing works. have you consider reinstall windows completely? (or even go back to windows 7)

it not easy to damage CPU now a days. they have fail safe build in to it. your computer would have crash before it get to the point where it would damage your cpu.

Tried reinstalling drivers from scratch. But i rather not downgrade windows since im satisfied with the 10 version. also i dont think windows is the issue

well let do it the other way. by elimination method.
CPU. your i7 should be good. with the D15 so over heat won't be it.
Motherboard should be okay. since it a high end mobo so it shouldn't have any over heat stuff going on.
GPU - your GPU is up to date. so that should be out of the question.
Ram - run a Ram test if you haven't.
PSU. what PSU are you using?
OS. did you upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10? or did you install a fresh copy of windows 10? If you did a upgrade. you can try doing a fresh install.

Hi.

The CPU is definetly not the issue here performance wise, it runs at very low temps and never even gets above 50c at this point in boost mode running @4.3Ghz. I did some more research and for a moment i suspected the C-states for power saving but the cores when running Gta is newer under 5% which is the enabling factor. As said its also does this in bf4 and also in a super low game as heroes of newerth.

Im running a corsair vx550w psu. I am abit suspecious but i doubt its not enough. since the main 2 components does not even add up to 400w together when running high.

I ran the windows ram-test and no issues.
I installed a fresh copy of windows 10. And still I doubt a reinstall will help me out further.

Also i tried increasing my power limit on my gpu by flashing a modded bios and it seems to have helped with the frequency of the spikes. Still happens though.
