suddenly from some hours, whenever I connect a WB Passport to SONY VAIO laptop, a hard disk is detected but it hangs the whole system. I have tried to run western digital data lifeguard but it also gets hang when a hard disk is connected.I have tried to connect disk management service but when a hard disk is connected,it is not getting connected to disk management. I have tried device manager . It shows WD device and there is no yellow or any triangle. Everything else works fine after removing a hard disk. Help me. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your HDD. Hopefully it turns out to be something minor like a faulty cable. So I'd recommend that you try the HDD with a different USB cable and a different computer (if possible), to see if the same thing happens. If you are able to access the drive, backup your important data immediately.
If you have data to recover you could try accessing the drive via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if it still freezes the system, or if you'd be able to open the drive's folders and recover the files.

Note that you should not do any tests or scans if you have data to recover, until you've retrieved everything you need.
