Hi, kinda new to this forum.
Had a question.
I just upgraded my PC.
Had a standard intel fan on a I5-3470k 3.2 ghz with a asus p8z77 lx mobo and ran a 650 ti with a 650 watt power supply. I upgraded to a MSI 970 4g card and got a cosair H60 water cooler for the cpu.
When I'm gaming tho, for some reason my cpu is going up to 70 C and the GPU going up to around 60. Is the water cooler not working(I know its for the CPU)? I wouldn't even get close to 60 C with my standard fan on the cpu(Although I know that I'm using more energy with the new graphics card) So I'm not sure what it was. I was running BF4 at 1920x1080 around 70-80 fps but sometimes it would dip to 30, not sure if it was the cpu or not causing the frame drop. Any help would be appreciated. I think it might be the thermal paste? It was the paste that came with the water cooler, and I removed the stock thermal paste off of the old fan and the cpu. Any help would be great. Thanks,
Sam

i5 3470 is mostly locked - it's limited to 4 bins above stock clocks, which would be 3.8ghz with 4 cores. The 3570K is the only unlocked Ivy Bridge i5, and its stock frequency is 3.4ghz with a 3.8ghz turbo. There is no 3470K.

You're right that you can get some extra frequency out of a 3470, but a modest 400mhz OC should also run fine on the stock cooler. If you can, I would recommend returning the H60 and getting your money back.
70c is not hot for that CPU. It should throttle at 105c, which is the maximum Intel considers safe at stock clocks, and I wouldn't even be remotely concerned until it's in the upper 80's. That's a pretty low-end watercooler, and it's not as good as a lot of less-expensive air cooling options, but it is strange, however, that your watercooler is not running cooler than the stock heatsink.

Why did you replace the stock heatsink if it was only running at 60c?

Also, 3570K @ 3.4ghz, or i5 3470 @ 3.2ghz? If the latter, why did you replace the cooler on a CPU with a locked multiplier?

I assumed it would be better, but I guess performance is not showing it. Also its not a locked processor, I just have not overclocked it yet.
