I've been prowling the internet for info on Pascal and have read a lot of conflicting info. I feel like GDDR5x came late and honestly should have been on the maxwell 900 series cards. I want to upgrade but I will NOT upgrade my GPU unless it has HBM2
And from the looks of it AMD would not going to have HBM2 either this year. Heck maybe no HBM as well on polaris.
That GTX1080 (or what ever name it has) will be based on GP104. So definitely no HBM2 there. Right now samsung most likely the sole supplier of HBM2 for nvidia. And most (if not all) of them will go to nvidia tesla P100 this year. Gaming grade gpu most likely not going to get HBM2 until next year. Personally i don't care much if it GDDR5/GDDR5X/HBM. Performance wise our games are not really that bottlenecked much by bandwidth.
Not pissed, but at least somewhat surprised. Until very recently I thought it was basically confirmed that both Nvidia and AMD would be launching cards with HBM 2 this year, if only on 1 or 2 flagship GPUs. Now it sounds iffy.
