Hi I am thinking about buying a 2nd hand PC and accessories from CL with the below specs for 750$ and was wondering if its a good deal.

i7-4790k processor
gtx 970 video card
240 gb solid state hard drive
500gb hard disk drive
logitech c920 camera,
razer keyboard and mouse
Two 24inch HD 1080p monitors
Blue Yeti Mic

Seemed too good to be true and needed something VR ready for the Vive. Should I get this or just built my own through newegg? A build I was looking at with i7 6700 and gtx 970 was 1150$.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

It does not seem a bad deal for whats on offer....... but if you are truly looking for something for VR. I would go with a desktop...... you will get more bang for your buck. Especially if you are going for VR a desktop GPU will be much better than a mobile one.

Hope that helps,
Matt.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the advice but I believe the PC on offer was a desktop. The gtx 970 GPU is likewise a desktop GPU from my understanding and would have been the first part i would replace.

It still seems great for the price I would go for it :)

Awesome thanks so much Matt I really appreciate it. Will get back to you once I have made the purchase and tried to vive on it to let everyone know how it performs.

Great, looking forward to seeing how it goes, just with it being off CL....... test it before buying run a bench mark or something that will put some stress on both the cpu and gpu before handing over any cash.

Hope it goes well,
Matt.

Cool will do that for sure, is there any sort of website or test you would recommend for that? Or should I just try out a game like witcher 3 at ultra settings and see how it performs?

I was planning on doing the STEAMVR test to see how it works for VR, as well as a virus scan.

I would recommend https://www.jam-software.com/heavyload/ because you can kind of hit everything in one test...... the cpu gpu ram and HDD....... there is no score or anything like that but if you say hit the system as hard as you can for 10 mins and everything seems okay after that I think everything should be okay. As far as VR goes........ the gtx 970 is not a week card it should be okay with VR.

Matt.

UPDATE: I would also hit the gpu with 3d mark fire strike but for ram and cpu used heavy load
