How to block P2P on router level?

It tends to be almost impossible, torrent is designed to get around almost any form of block you can put in. The only one that would stop it is if you block all sites and then put in huge lists of the sites that were valid. That tends to not be a realistic option for most people.

You can block all ports except 80 and 443 and that will slow it down a bit but it also tends to block many games so you would have to add exceptions for those remote ip to use other ports.

Pretty much this comes down to preventing people who are going to do this from gaining access in the first place. Then those that are authorized you get agreements to not run torrent and the agreement they lose access if they do.

It is to a point possible to detect torrent based on the number of random sessions it opens but this tends to be a feature on commercial firewalls. The tend to keep secret how they are figuring out it is torrent and not something else.

Im not sure I know my router doesn't have any simple options to just disable p2p. I would say block the ports it uses on your firewall, but i dont know what ports it uses since usually those torrenting programs have auto port assignment meaning if you block one port it decided to use it would just pick another that isn't blocked. Honestly im not really sure how to do it i will do a quick google search. Someone torrenting without your permission? lol

The problem is, I organized a small party last month at home and everyone got the access to my WLAN....and my PC...
so..I see no way out..it does not matter who did it..I am dead
Now, I received a cease and desist mail. I already contacted an attorney to assist me.
I have no idea who did that, even if I can find out...those are my friends and mostly not from the country I am living in.
In my home country, such regulations do not exist.
I also can not baby sit 10 persons 24 hours 100%.
Nothing can help me now but I wanna prevent it from happening again.
The more interesting stuff (negatively) is...I had such parties at least monthly...we fellow landsmen hang out quite often...
Torrent programs are also available for mobile devices..
I have no idea what have been downloaded..how much..how many...
in short..I am doomed

This is why you never share internet with anyone. I would not even trust some relatives. It is really too bad that all the idiots who run the torrent think the cease and desist letters do not really exist.

All you could do is install a massive logging firewall and make sure you tell everyone you are logging everything and you want them to tell you the mac addresses they are each using. Then you make sure they know you will turn the information over to the company the next time you get a letter. Maybe hang the letter where everyone can see so they know you are serious.

Now you could bluff and just pretend like you log it. If you get every ones name and mac address they may be too scared to attempt it.

Still misuse of internet in many different ways is the reasons companies are so strict. The company I work for has terminated a number of people because of illegal activities....and they have got caught doing even worse than copyright violations.

Now normally what you can do is show you have a plan to ensure it will never happen again...or at least a method to track the offenders. This many times will get these companies to not go forward with legal action. I know firing the offending employee seem to make them happy.
