Cleaning then Recycling CPU and CMOS error message. I want to know if the CPU needs to be cleaned further if I got the message CMOS checksum error and CMOS battery failed. Do i need to do anything before I recycle this old XP computer? Thx.

Not a fan of putting stuff in the microwave, ESPECIALLY metal (many hard drive platters are partially made of Aluminum). Its a bad idea.

Take the hard drive out and drill 3 holes in it. Nobody will ever get a thing off it ever again.

There's not going to be any personal info in CMOS. You will definitely want to clear your hard disk. If you don't want the hard disk anymore, take it apart, remove the platter(s) and put them in a microwave oven for about 4 seconds. --At least that's the fun way. Many platters are made of glass so another way
would be to just shatter them.
