I have recently decided to make a custom built gaming PC with the help of a friend. I plan on gaming/streaming on it so I want to have a good machine that won't fail on me. I need it to last so I am putting in the extra dollars.

I will obviously be saving money as i'm not buying it pre-built so I am willing to put in some extra money elsewhere in my machine.

How does this look?

CPU: Intel Core BX80646I74790K i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING 7 LGA 1150 Z97 Gaming Audio Networking ATX Motherboard

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) UDIMM Memory BLS2KIT8G3D1609DS1S00/ BLS2CP8G3D1609DS1S00

Hard Drive: WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX

Solid State Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B/AM)

Case: NZXT PHANTOM ATX Full Tower Case, White PHAN-001WT

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G1 80+ GOLD, 750W Fully Modular 10 Year Warranty Power Supply 120-G1-0750-XR

Video card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Super Clocked Gaming ACX 2.0 6GB GDDR5 384bit PCI-E Graphic Card (06G-P4-4995-KR)

Now, I haven't listed a cooling unit here as I am unsure of what to get. I don't know whether or not to get an air cooler or whether or not to get a water cooler. I am open to advice and suggestions.

NOTE: I put this list together based on a big streamer I watch. I took everything he has with the exception of the video card, which I decided to go better on. I am not very smart with computers but I just want a general idea of how this looks before I order my parts. THANK YOU!

Solution
The 980Ti is nearly twice as fast, but I think the 970 will still provide an excellent experience in most games today. Really depends on the resolution you intend to run - 4K, you want the 980Ti, 1440P or 1080P, the 970 is a fine choice.

I'd also like to add that nVidia is close to releasing their next generation of GPUs, which will almost certainly be faster at the same price, and will cause existing cards to depreciate a lot, so right now isn't a great time to buy a high-end card like the 980Ti.
Looks solid, I have no criticisms.

Some thoughts: The 4790K has virtually no overclocking headroom, and as such, an overclocking board with a Z97 chipset is probably not necessary.

Have you considered instead going with a Skylake i7 6700 and H170 or even H110 motherboard? Performance will be around the same, but the CPU runs cooler.

EDIT: But the 4790K is still a fine choice.

I did not mean to post that under CPU... my mistakes. I did not realize it was 4790k.

I did have a different one listed from newegg but I can find it. I want to stick to amazon so I can order it all in one go. Do you have a link for something that would be suffice? I would appreciate it immensely.

Depends - Do you want to go with:

4790K, Z97, DDR3 setup (Haswell, overclocking)
4790, H97, DDR3 setup (Haswell, no overclocking, probably cheapest)
6700, H110/H170, DDR4 (Skylake, no overclocking, runs coolest and quietest)
6700K, Z170, DDR4 (Skylake, overclocking, best performance)

?

Any of the above is a fine choice.

I would say 6700K, Z170, DDR4 (Skylake, overclocking, best performance)

Also, do you think I would be okay going with Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming GDDR5 Pcie Video Graphics Card, 4GB for my Video card? It's about $300 cheaper than the 980TI. Would it make a massive difference?

Thank you so much... I will go with that CPU and RAM. Is there anyone wrong with the motherboard I have chosen above?

You cannot use a Z97 board with a 6xxx (Skylake) CPU. i7 6700K will fit in socket 1151 boards, which have H110, B150, H170 or Z170 chipsets.

Likewise with the 4790K - it would not fit into a Z170 board, but instead only works with H97 and Z97 (and probably most B85 and H81 boards).

Thank you. I think i'll stick with the 970 for now until I can afford something better.
