So I'm building a PC, the Motherboard I'm using is the MSI 970 gaming and the CPU I'm using is the AMD fx 8350.

My question is, do I need to update the BIOS before I use the CPU?

Pcpartpicker flagged this as a potential compatibility issue, saying i might have to update the bios before using the CPU.

You do not need to for fx chips. Even 760g boards probably won't, it all depends on what the manufacturer bios version is. It just depends on that. People use fx processors with a 970 gaming fine.Just don't use the MSI 970 gaming. It has good vrm, but it has less power phase and is not the best choice in motherboard. It is a good budget board, so you won't get a good overlook on it. It should not need a bios update, and you also need another compatible CPU to do a Bios update. I would use a board with a 8+2 power phase, like the 970a ud3p from gigabyte, or even better, a sabertooth 990FX OR 990X board. They are designed for higher TDP CPU like the 8350 and the 9590. But the 970 gaming is an okay choice.
