Hello-

I received some help from this forum awhile back on an issue I was having with another computer build that you solved, Im hoping for some more help on another build...

Details on the computer:

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 Rev 3.0
AMD FX-8150
Corsair H80i cooler
Crucial Ballistix ram (4x 8GB)
MSI R9 270 GPU, 2GB GDDR5
Corsair HX750 power supply
2x seagate 3TB HDD
2x WD 1TB HDD
1x 256GB Samsung SSD, Sata 6 <---- Boot drive
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

No OC settings, all drivers installed.

I had this computer together for about a year and it was running with no major issue.

During this year, I did have frequent issues getting into any boot options (Bios screen, boot screen, etc would all black out the monitor when I tried to enter them, forcing me to power cycle the computer).

Recently I grew tired of the noise of the H80i cooler fans so I machined some 140mm adapters to fit over the radiator, replaced the fans with Akasa Viper 140mm fans (which werent much quieter, it turns out).

I disassembled the computer, pulled the H80i out, cleaned the CPU and pump with 70% IPA polyester wipes. I made sure to de-static myself by touching the case multiple times. I spread 'Antec nano-Diamond' paste from bestbuy on the CPU using the spreader it came with. Got it pretty thin on there. (May try to reinstall using the center blob method at some point.)

Reassembled the computer, ran it for about a week without issue until I got bored and decided to figure out why it wouldnt allow me into bios option screens. I tried resetting CMOS by pulling the battery, disconnecting power, shorting the jumpers (plus i let it sit overnight with no battery) with no change.

I pulled all peripherals, swapped PSU's with another computer I built, removed all but 1 stick of ram, swapped GPUs to the one from my other rig. Computer powered up and let me into the boot menu so I decided it must have been a hardware issue.

Tried all ram sticks individually - all pass
swapped GPU back - pass
swapped PSU back - pass
installed all peripherals - pass

At this point my computer was completely assembled as original and working fine, so I left it.

A couple days later I got the amazing 'This isnt genuine' message from windows, no doubt from installing windows without all my hardware connected, so I decided to reinstall windows with all the hardware installed (It wouldnt give me the option to re-activate by phone).

I booted from my USB, formatted my SSD (success), partitioned it (success), but when attempting to install windows got the message 'Failed to create a new system partition on this media' which I had never seen before. I tried to format a couple different ways, got the same message every time.

I disconnected all drives, formatted the SSD through the command prompt (Diskpart), which gave me a success message, but was still not able to create a partition with windows installer.

Used 'Disk Clean' in DiskPart and still had the same issue.

So after reading around online I decided to update my BIOS. I installed the HDD from my other computer, booted, downloaded @BIOS, updated the BIOS on the GA-990FXA-UD5 with FM12 (Had FM8 installed according to @BIOS). Received a success message, rebooted.

Reinstalled the SSD, booted up to install windows, and am now having the following problem that I can not solve (PS, good job for making it to the end of this long post)

I turn on the computer, fans spin up, disks spin up, MOBO gives me 1 beep, I get the splash screen for a couple seconds (seems shorter than usual) then black screen and nothing.

Tried all the menu options (BIOS, Qflash, etc) and they all do the same, black screen.

I also noticed that the H80i, while set to color Red, lights up white during the boot up, after the splash screen it turns pink (Corsair software issue) but then begins flickering? No pattern, just random flickering. Not sure if it is related.

I went through all the prior steps (reset cmos, substituted other hardware) and now cant get this problem to go away.

What I would like to do today is pull the cooler and CPU out and reinstall, only because that was the only major change I made recently (I didnt pull the CPU when I installed the larger fans, just the pump)

Any other ideas of what it could possibly be? Help is appreciated...

ANyone have any recommended next steps?

I have an old AM3 sempron processor i am considering putting in with the OEM heatsink to see if anything changes.

Also considering a new MOBO and FX-9590 at this point too... any AM3+ recommendations?
