I recently purchased a new graphics card and power supply, and I know for sure that my cpu is bottlenecking the graphics and upon playing csgo, I am getting terrible fps on the lowest settings and there is not a single difference using the new graphics card.
Specs:
AMD R9 390
Fx-4300
Corsair 750w
Mobo, not a clue lol

I use to run this set up with a 300w psu and gtx 550ti, I am not even noticing improvements, is my cpu bottlenecking graphics THAT bad or is something wrong?

I believe that it trully is a problem with the CPU, the problem is that the 4300 is a very old model and it used to cover the mainstream segment. If you want to keep your mobo then I'd recommend you to take a 6 or 8 core FX.

@superninja
Sometimes you have to make compromises and select the weaker one to lower your expenses. While in his case, a high end AMD CPU will be more than enough.
Also, bad PSU will mostly only affect oveclocking.

true man no doubt for csgo he could have went with a lwoer graphicsn card.
its a shamer if we cant fully utilize that graphics card in more demanding games right ?:)

and a 8350 will hold the r9 390 back...
not alot but a little it will, while an i5 will completly remove it.

Not really, I used an FX 8320 with my r9 280x and hd 7970 XFire until I got the i7 4790K, and so far I can say that I only saw a minor advantage in open-world games, while a great advantage only in rendering.
Do never underestimate AMD, it can do magic, especially if you have a water cooler.

but dude/ you have got a quality motherboard he doesnt.
so if he upgrades anyways.......
also about cpu intensive games, with an i5 u can go up 20fps... ''far cry 4''

Hey guys, thanks for replies, Intel is a little pricey for me and amd has always worked a charm for me, I my psu is the cx750 atx model, and my mobo is a Gigabyte is a 970A-DS3P Model. I'd like to know whether my mobo can support a higher AMD cpu or shall i upgrade mobo and cpu together. Intel is kind of out the question unfortunately!

PS: how exactly is my psu bad, hundreds of threads state that its perfectly fine and more than enough?

intel smacks amd at any price point

I must admit, I wont be purchasing any new power supply soon, as you can imagine swapping out a 320w stock psu after 5 years of use to a 750w bronze corsair psu is a big jump £65, along with a £280 gpu is a bit hit in the wallet. I understood i will be bottlenecked until i upgrade cpu, but I'm not going to be playing demanding games as such, Im just looking for a new build which will last me 'x' amount of years, I'm not looking to OC or anything stupid. Yes I must admit the r9 390 was a bit of a push since i doubt i will be maximising its potential but I'm not looking for opinions for what would get me insane results.

If you would be happily able to suggest me a mobo and cpu under 200min 250max, id appreciate it, if you could get the price lower that would be ideal. ( remember not looking to OC or stress my PC out, just casual gaming) Thanks :)

You can find very decent second hand AMD CPUs and mobos almost everywhere, just search a bit. The only problem I've seen in this is that many people try to scam you, but the good way to avoid that is by asking them to confirm their name, address. Myself, I found the FX for only 100$, same for the HD.
While for which you should choose, the mobo should have a 990X or FX, and for the CPU an 8 core vishera(83xx or 93xx).

Also, intel only rules the high-end range, while AMD rules the low-end. They are oretty close to each other in mid-range because AMD offers more performane whe all cores are used and a better peice, while Intel offers a better performance per core and performance per watt ratio, whle not being cheap.

disagreed, an i3 6100 pulls more fps than an fx 8320 in games

No it doesn't, you probably found that info on GPU Boss, but they didn't make a multi core test, 1 core of the i3 is almost two times more powerful than the one of an FX 8320, but it has also only 2 cores while AMD has 8. Also, today all AAA games can use at least 6 cores which puts the i3 completely out of concurence. Meanwhile, source usually runs on only 3 threads, but you can force it to run on more (6 is the highest recommended setting) .

You are wrong, i couldnt find an i3 6100 vs 8320 so i moved both 1tier up i3 6320 vs fx8350
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFRquZP7h_8 you canc learly see it kicks the 8350.

also wee this forumpage http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2871337/6100-8320.html

there are multiple websites that show that the i3 is pulling ahead(no not cpu boss ), thanks to the stronger architecture with hyperthreading.
