My Laptop Contantly Shuts Down, Not Overheating?

So this has been happening to me recently, and I think I know the solution but I just want to be sure.

My laptop (Lenovo 0319 46u) has recently been 'overheating' and shutting off after about 15ish minutes. However, the computer hardware itself shows no sign of overheating except for the temps in core temp. I have cleaned out all dust and reapplied thermal compound. My temperatures in core temp still manage to reach 140+ degrees Celsius and it eventally shuts down. I know laptops run hotter but this hot?

I believe this is a BIOS issue though, because my fan still spins up and the CPU still gets hot in BIOS. Although the fix may be to flash / update BIOS I am afraid it will shut down mid-update and brick the PC, which I don't want.

Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks so much,

Corbin

It could be a broken thermal sensor, but my best guess is that there is a gap/air bubble in your thermal compound. The behavior you describe is typical of a poorly seated heatsink. You could have too much thermal compound, or your heatsink could somehow be broken. If you continue to run your laptop like this, you may damage the cpu permanently.

I think it may be the thermal sensor then, the biggest giveaway is that the fan throttles 5-10 secs after the computer starts. I've replaced the thermal compound multiple times with no fix.
