I know the GTX 970 Card works with Oculus Rift, but are there any specific types of outputs needed, such as more than one monitor output. There are a lot of brands of GTX 970 cards and many have different types and numbers of outputs. Does it make any difference?

There's not exactly a plethora of IO configurations, they all either have the standard Maxwell layout (3xDP, 1xHDMI2.0, 1xDVI-D DL), or a few cards have the standard Kepler layout (1xDVI-D DL, 1xDVI-I, 1xHDMI 1.4, 1xDP). That's it. The only reason this happened is because Nvidia did not make a reference 970, unlike the 980 which did carry the new Maxwell standard 3xDP/HDMI/DVI setup.

I guess I need to be very specific (although I did use past tense....): at launch, there were no reference 970s, and this is why non-standard cards (compared to 980) exist so readily, because they've been around since day 1 of the GTX 970's retail availability.
