Why wont my new graphics card display.. sometimes

I recently got a msi gtx 960 4G graphics card and installed it and it worked fine and I also downloaded all the drivers and the next day I turned on my pc and it wouldn't display on my monitor. I checked the bios and it's set to pcie so Ido why it won't work. I took out my graphics card and put in the old one and it worked fine. Then I put the msi graphics card and it worked again... and then in a middle of a game it cut out the display again I restarted a few times and nothing worked. The only thing that works is if I put the old graphics card in and boot the computer and then shut it off and install the new one and then I get to play for awhile then the display cuts out and says no signal again! The motherboard seems fine everything works just no display when this happens for both the vga and hdmi

Try this,
First of all you need to TOTALLY remove all the old drivers. Use this link.
http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/
Note:
Select the respective company(i.e Nvidia or ATI) drivers to be uninstalled.
Use clean and restart option.
And then install the new drivers after rebooting.
With latest drivers and then older drivers.

Which PSU do you have? Are those cables good?

I have a corsair RM550 its a couple months old and has no problems right now im using my old graphics card to be on the computer and as soon as I change this one over to the msi GTX 960 it will work for a bit and cut out again. ill try to uninstall drivers but I did already and to no avail it worked for a little bit

no the fans don't run on the psu because it never gets hot enough in my pc and the fans are temperature controlled. ive never felt any hot air out of my computer ever it stays rather cool

Well thank you Alan Caldwell for trying to help me. I had to play it safe though and exchange it for a new one to make sure it wasn't a bad gpu i received (which seemed unlikely since it worked at first) but since getting the new one it has worked fine for a week with no problems so I'm just gonna say it must of been a bad GPU. I cleaned out all my drivers and installed it correctly but this time i made sure to get rid of the old audio drivers (maybe that was the problem). But anyways I'm happy now
