Just bought Xbox 360 wireless controller with reciever. The reciever light does not illuminate when plugged to USB. It blinks when I hold the button on it, then stops.

I tried to pair with the controller through the usual method but as soon as it pairs the reciever light puts out .

Plz help!

Solution
Do you mean that there is no quadrant indication on the "ring of light"?

Check your batteries. Move closer to the controller and try again.

Could be interference from another 2.4 GHz source. Turn it off if possible and try pairing again. (At least to test the possibility.)

I meant when I install driver the Microsoft wireless reciever comes with exclamation in device manager. And thus reciever ''s light remains off! But I tried same method in two other computers on which it worked.

No problem - one of the moderator's can "unselect". No problem here....

I would not reinstall Windows just yet. Too broad of a "solution" when we really do not know what the problem is.

Try disabling the device, shut down, and then re-enable after boot up.

Take a closer look the device properties by right-clicking the device and selecting properties.

Go into the various tabs and see what is selected and set. Try some changes that seem applicable and appropriate. Only one at a time.

Again the hope is to find or receive and error, warning, or other message that points to a specific problem.

I've tried uninstalling and installing the driver hundreds of times . But what irritates me that it works simply my other two systems. Is it because the system which is failing fits not have internet connection??
BTW thanks for your help, will try your suggestion.

Not having an internet connection should not be the reason.

However, how did you obtain the drivers for that system? Maybe you are still installing an older or inapplicable driver.

Make sure that the driver matches your OS, is the appropriate 64 or 32 bit version, comes from the manufacturer, etc..

Not sure what else to specifically suggest. Can you think of any differences between the "failing system" and the two systems that do work?

Go into the Event Viewer on the failing system and look for errors and warnings. Start with the Windows logs and right click any errors or warnings for more information.

You may need to explore abit but there should be some entry regarding any installation failures.....

Update:

Noted your PM regarding Code 37.

Google the error message - lots of information. For example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/27fog1/psa_for_the_new_xbox_one_controller_drivers_how/

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/errorc/a/code-37-error.htm

You may need to take a look at other sites as well to see if something applicable to your setup is obvious.

Avoid sites that offer to download software to fix the problem.

Nothing specific other than that if Windows has been reinstalled you may need to do some additional reconfiguration(s) to get back to normal.

I.e., some new processes, services, once again running in the background. Some older driver or missing update to fix a bug.

See what all is being launched at start up and shutdown/remove unnecessary applications. Look up for dualing AV software, backup stuff, etc. going on.....
