I recently picked up a dimension 9150 with a soundcard in it. it came with 2 GB of ram and a filthy gpu without any stickers on it or anything. I wanted to install windows 10 on it and check the full specs. First I took out the two 1 GB dimms and put 4 1GB dimms in. I started it up and the mobo started beeping. I then inserted a new gpu and when I started it up the cpu fan started blowing alot harder and my monitor didn't receive any signal, I tried a nvidia 8600gt and a 9500 gt. Is it not possible to upgrade this pc or am I doing something wrong?

2800? Whewww old stuff. Yeah, I figured it had to be the ram. If you really wanted, I found the price of 2 1gb nanya sticks are $20. But I think getting rid of it is the best thing to do, it's really old hardware and at it's best it would be good for just web browsing.

The easier route to go down, as it appears the kingston ram you have won't work with the dell mb, is too buy two more sticks of the nanya, same exact model and all as the originals, and put those in. I am assuming the nanya is at least PC2 5300 correct? If not, you might just want to buy a whole new set of 4 sticks.

Put the original ram sticks back in and take the gc out out. See if it POSTs, if it does then power it off and put the gc in. If it doesn't POST, try and reset bios(there should be jumpers for that on your board, if you can't find the plastic bit, just remove the cmos battery). After you reset, power it on again, if it still doesn't work it might just be the gc. I have and old xps 420, it has an almost identical mb to the 9150 apart from the socket and chipset, and it is running a 6670 perfectly without any problems.

You said you tried the 8600 and 9100 correct? Do you have any other cards that will fit that you can try?

I tried the 8600 and the 9500, I have a 760 but the psu doesnt support it. I cant run the pc without a gpu because the mobo doesnt have any video outs and there is only one pcie 16X slot.

You were right, the sticks of kingston memory were 2 GB each, sorry. ive tried some of the oldest worst 512MB stick of ddr 2 and they worked, I the tried some terrible 1GB medion sticks which also worked, then I treid the medion and original stcks but it didnt work, I also tried two 1GB sticks of corsair value select but they didnt work. at this point i think im going to give up and see if i can use a different board. Thanks alot for the trouble.
