Combo input Mic/audio doesn't recognise headset microphone when using audio combo jack

So I just bought the a new laptop (Medion P6659) and I noticed there's a singular audio/microphone input. As my headset has 2 outputs, I bought an audio combo jack. Now after the standard stuff like reinstalling the driver etc I got to the point that under recording devices I have 3 possible options:

-Mic in at front panel (black)
-Microphone (built-in microphone)
-Stereo Mix

The first option is causing the problems (I think) and let's call this (1)
First of all: the combiner i'm using looks like this: http://i.stack.imgur.com/XDfgM.jpg
When the combiner is plugged in in my laptop, and my headset is plugged in in my combiner: my laptop tells me (1) is not plugged in.

When I remove my headset from the combiner, but the combiner is still in my laptop, my laptop recognizes (1) as the default device (which obviously won't work as my headset isnt connected)

When the combiner isn't plugged in in my laptop, it also tells (1) isnt connected (also quite logical). So now I'm connecting everything again, my laptop does find my headset as an external device for audio, but it can't find the microphone of the headset, and thus it only used the built-in microphone.

Anyone able to help? Feel free to ask more information/questions.

That headset sounds like it's not a dynamic mic, which means you'll need to call the company and verify before replacing it.
1) are you sure you have a combo jack (trrs) and not just headphone with input elsewhere?
2) Are you sure your headset uses an unpowered mic and not a powered one? Most sets that have separate 3.5mm for mic need power, which won't work with a trrs input

My output of my headset is TRS for both audio and microphone, and the output of the combiner is TRRS, and I'm using the same headset for my desktop which is quite new also, but on my desktop I have 2 separate entries. My headset is Sharkoon H10, so I don't really know if it's an unpowered one or not.
