Hi There - our Asus Z87-K motherboard powers our phone system. We had a noisy/rattling fan inside the motherboard, and we unplugged the fan from the motherboard which solved the issue. However, this caused an alarm sound to go off (it will not stop even after powering off and on, or when we plug the fan back in again). It is a horrible whine sound! When we enter the BIOS using a monitor, we can't find anywhere to turn off any fan alarms (there are several options for fan speeds and temperature monitor etc.)

Any help would be amazing! Thanks

You can remove the battery from the motherboard for about 5 mins and put it back in (power supply unplugged from the wall) this will set the BIOS settings back to default so any changes you have made will be gone. No affect on anything that's on the hard drives. The CPU cooling fan should be plugged into the CPU fan header on the motherboard.

Thanks for the tip. How do you go about resetting the CMOS, and would it have any impact on the hard drive programming? Also, there is one main fan still running in the CPU, this is just a small peripheral fan that was unplugged, which tripped the alarm.
Cheers
